The commission of inquiry heard the chairman of the board of directors of TAP

TAP Board Chairman Manuel Beja will be heard on Tuesday before a parliamentary commission of inquiry to clarify the circumstances of Alexandra Reis’ departure from the airline with compensation of half a million euros.

Manuel Beja and the company’s executive president, Christine Humier-Widener, signed an agreement to fire former administrator Alexandra Reis, in which the General Financial Inspectorate (IGF) concluded serious violations, and the government decided to exonerate the two perpetrators, asserting a just cause.

Unlike Urmier-Widener, Manuel Beja said he would not challenge the decision.

In June 2021, TAP shareholders approved at a general meeting new management led by Manuel Beja, who replaced Miguel Frasquillo as chairman of the airline’s board of directors.

Until recently, the name of the chairman of the board of directors was little known in public opinion, but that changed when Correio da Manhã announced last December that former administrator Alexandra Reis, then finance minister, had resigned. TAP with compensation of 500,000 euros.

Thus, it is expected that Manuel Beja will be asked questions about the contours in which the agreement was concluded, why it was not done in the status of a public administrator, which applies to the TAP and does not allow reimbursement in such amounts, as well as the reasons that led to the departure of Alexandra Reis.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors is the fifth person to be heard by a parliamentary commission of inquiry set up at the initiative of Bloco de Esquerda, after the IGF, financial administrator Gonzalo Pires, executive president and former administrator Alexandra. Flight.

The government announced on March 6 that the IGF had concluded that the agreement made for Alexandra Reis’s early departure from TAP was invalid and that it was going to seek a refund.

The IGF review of the legitimacy of the compensation paid to Alexandra Reis was determined on December 27 last year by Finance Minister Fernando Medina and then Infrastructure and Housing Minister Pedro Nuno Santos.

The case led to a government reshuffle, including the resignation of Pedro Nuno Santos, who was replaced by João Galamba.
