Rent support will begin to be paid in May and interest subsidies in May and June, Finance Minister Fernando Medina said Tuesday in Parliament.
The timeline was put forward by a government official during a hearing at the Budget and Finance Commission (BFC) as part of a petition submitted by Chega for a zero VAT measure on a food basket determined by the government.
Fernando Medina indicated that the rent support “will start to be paid in the month of May”, retroactive to January.
Support for interest subsidies for families who are under a lot of pressure due to the effort rate “will be paid between May and June”, depending on the request of the banking institution.
Income support is for tenants with effort rates above 35%, with income up to the IRS Step 6 maximum cap and contracts signed and registered with the tax authority by March 15, 2023, will be paid by Social Security and can be up to €200 per month.
The interest subsidy takes the form of a temporary interest subsidy and is intended for borrowers (up to IRS 6) of loan agreements for the purchase or construction of permanent housing and aims to quickly change the underlying index, with a blow to one of the main household budget items.
The measure provides for a 50% interest rate subsidy on housing loans up to 200 thousand euros, the increase of which exceeds the “stress test”.
