Meo “totally” disagrees with the allegations made by Anacom and will contest the decision.

Meo “completely disagrees with the allegations” made by Anacom regarding the imposition of a €6.677 million fine and will “litigate” the decision, an Altice Portugal official told Lusa on Monday.

The National Communications Authority (Anacom) fined Meo (Altice Portugal), NOS, Vodafone and Nowo more than 15 million euros for price changes without proper communication, the regulator said on Monday.

Meo was the operator that received the highest fine of €6.677 million, followed by NOS (€5.2 million) and Vodafone Portugal (€3.082 million). Novo, the imposed fine amounted to 664 thousand euros.

“Meo has been made aware of Anacom’s decision to impose a single fine of around six million euros as part of a misdemeanor procedure related to providing information to customers during 2016,” the source said.

Meo “completely disagrees with the allegations made against him by Anacom and will challenge this decision in court.”

The fines, the regulator said in a statement, are due to the fact that the four operators “have taken measures that may violate the legal rules applicable to the notification of contract price changes to a large number of subscribers, resulting in serious administrative offences.” , and for failing to provide information to Anacom.”

“In particular, the behavior of these operators is due to the lack of information during the period stipulated by the contract on the right of subscribers to terminate the contract free of charge if they do not agree with the proposed price. carriers,” explains Anacom.

In addition, “there is also the issue of a failure to properly communicate a price increase proposal, since in some cases the actual cost of the increase was only known to subscribers long after they were informed of the price increase, and in other cases due to for not providing the specific cost of the proposed increase in the form and location specified in the contract amendment notice,” he continues.

At NOS, he adds, “the fact that subscribers were not informed of the proposed price increase at least 30 days in advance is still in question.”
