In a warning to the public, the National Office for Civil Protection Emergencies (ANEPC) refers to the forecasts of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), which predicts hot and dry weather for the next few days, namely an increase in the maximum temperature from Saturday in the hinterland and from Sunday on the coast.

30 to 35 degrees are expected on Sunday and Monday, as well as a gradual decrease in relative humidity values, according to ANEPC.

ANEPC warns of worsening fire risk to high to very high in the north and center of the hinterland, and very high to maximum in the Algarve region.

Civil Protection indicates that an increase in the risk of fires is expected, with favorable conditions for the possible emergence and spread of rural fires, as well as an increase in the difficulty of extinguishing fires, especially in the northern and central and southern regions. .

ANEPC warns that under current law, extensive burning without a permit is prohibited and information must be requested from the municipal council or by calling 808 200 520.

ANEPC also mentions that during very high and maximum fire danger days, burning dumps without permission or without prior notice is prohibited.

According to the Civil Protection, on days of very high and maximum fire danger, it is also forbidden to use fire in rural areas, disinfect apiaries, except for cases where fumigators have spark arresters and use brush cutters, brush cutters and choppers.

“The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority recommends an adequate behavior and attitude towards the situation of fire danger in rural areas, namely, the adoption of the necessary preventive and preventive measures in accordance with current legislation and paying special attention to the evolution of fire danger during this period,” also indicates ANEPC.
