The March for Animal Rights, which usually takes place in Lisbon, will take place this Saturday between Campo Pequeno and Sao Bento, and activists intend to include animals in the revision of the Constitution of the Republic.
According to Rita Silva, President of Animal, there is currently a petition with almost 30,000 signatures, but it will not yet be submitted to Parliament.
For the 20th year, the march has been held, which every year has a common component and an action with a specific goal. “This year’s Animals in the Constitution campaign,” said the president of the association.
The petition, he added, calls for “the unequivocal inclusion of animals in the Constitution of the Republic.”
“This petition is still taking time, this campaign will still go on. Petitioning now is not the best time because we are still going to start the review process,” he added, pointing out that the goal is for political party positions to unite animal welfare.
For this, signatures will be collected during the march.
“It is important that people come together for good reasons and we make it clear that we work for animal rights, but everyone who also works for human rights is welcome because two things are important to us. cannot be exceptional,” he said.
