The Republican National Guard (NR) has detained 34 people this year on suspicion of wildfire-related crimes and registered 13,024 offenses due to lack of fuel management, the home secretary announced today.
“This year, the GNR has already signaled 13,024 situations that could be violated due to lack of fuel management, has already prepared 66 administrative offense reports for improperly conducting arson and arson, and has already prepared 935 forest fire crime reports. “said José Luis Carneiro in Manteigas, Guarda district, at a public meeting dedicated to the presentation of a special device to combat rural fires (DECIR 2023).
The holder of the portfolio of the Internal Administration also added that the GNR this year identified 258 persons involved in the “alleged perpetrators of the fires this year” and carried out 34 arrests of people on suspicion of committing fire crimes.
The minister also said that in 2022, the NDP and the judicial police made 168 arrests in connection with forest fires.
“The number of arrests in 2022 doubled compared to 2021,” he said.
DECIR 2023 brings together 13,891 elements, 3,084 teams and 2,990 vehicles, among others, during the period of highest participation (July 1 to September 30).
