Brazil’s foreign minister on Monday defended the country’s relationship with Moscow, rejecting US criticism that Brasilia was “repeating Russian propaganda” regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
“I don’t know how or why [porta-voz do Conselho de Segurança Nacional dos EUA] came to this conclusion. But I totally disagree,” Mauro Vieira told reporters in Brasilia, where Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
The United States said on Monday that Brazil was repeating Russian and Chinese propaganda “without regard to the facts,” after the Brazilian president accused Washington and the European Union (EU) of prolonging the conflict in Ukraine, and hours after Vieira said that he is against the sanctions imposed against Russia during a press conference in Brasilia together with his colleague Sergey Lavrov.
