The National Communications Authority (ANACOM) fined Meo, Nos, Vodafone and Nowo approximately 15 million euros for price changes without adequately informing customers. Price increases are one of the most talked about topics, and ANACOM guarantees that they still deserve “very close monitoring.”
“The behavior of these operators is due to the lack of information during the contractual period about the right of subscribers to terminate their contracts without any payment in case they do not agree with the price increase proposed by the operators,” explains this regulator.
It should be remembered that the price increase must be reported 30 days in advance, while the client can refuse the increase and change the operator without penalty.
Meo was fined 6.677 million euros, which amounted to 5.2 million euros in the case of NOS and 3.082 million euros in the case of Vodafone. Novo was fined €664,000.
ANACOM promises to be attentive to price increases, which are expected to rise at the beginning of the year, to “guarantee compliance with contractual rules related to existing commercial relationships between companies and consumers.”
