Brazilian President Lula da Silva will travel to Madrid after addressing the Assembly of the Republic and will not attend the April 25 ceremonial meeting, official Brazilian sources have confirmed.
“The information we received was that the President was invited to a special session for him to speak to the Assembly,” Secretary for Europe and North America, Ambassador Maria Luisa Escorel de Moraes, when asked by Lusa.
“In principle, he would have already left for Madrid and would not have participated in the solemn meeting on April 25th. This is the information that I have at the moment,” added the Brazilian diplomat, who will be present in Lula da Silva’s entourage.
The President of Brazil leaves Brazil this Thursday at 22:00 (02:00 on Friday in Lisbon) and is due to land on Friday morning in the Portuguese capital for a five-day state visit.
Lula da Silva’s schedule in Portugal begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with a military salute ceremony at Praça do Imperio in Lisbon and ends on Tuesday, April 25, at the Assembly of the Republic in a meeting organized for the president himself. … and which precedes the solemn meeting dedicated to April 25th.
Lula da Silva then heads to Madrid with an agenda that includes meetings with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Philip VI of Spain and even a business forum.
