More than 30 municipalities in the districts of Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Guarda, Viseu, Vila Real, Bragança and Faro pose the highest risk of rural fires this Friday, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
IPMA has also placed more than 70 municipalities in Faro, Santarem, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Viseu, Coimbra, Leiria, Aveiro, Vila Real and Bragança in a very high fire risk group.
Several municipalities in all areas of the mainland, with the exception of Porto and Viana do Castelo, are under a high fire threat this Friday.
According to the Institute for Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF), since the beginning of the year there have been 2,148 forest fires and 7,431 hectares of rural areas burned.
The fire danger defined by IPMA has five levels, from minimum to maximum.
Calculations are made based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and precipitation over the past 24 hours.
IPMA predicts this Friday to be generally very cloudy with periods of rain temporarily remaining in the north and center, strong and gusty winds in places, a slight drop in minimum temperatures on the north and central coast and maximum temperatures, especially in the interior of the north and center. Center and South region.
The minimum temperature will range from 6 degrees Celsius (in Bragança) to 12 (in Faro), and the maximum from 17 (in Viana do Castelo) to 25 (in Bragança).
