INEM technicians in Lagos are protesting against the technical assistance facilities: a basement with an area of about six square meters where there is no air exchange. Professionals complain about the lack of working conditions, as the safety, hygiene and health of professionals are at risk.
The INEM Immediate Life Support Ambulance Base has been installed in the laundry basement at Terras D. Infante Hospital in Lagos since the 15th.
Antonio Barreto, an INEM technician with 13 years of experience, reports “unbearable” situations the workers have faced in the last days at the base. The pungent smell of detergent and the deafening noise of washing machines throughout the day resulted in several technicians leaving work with headaches and dizziness. In addition to these factors, the technician also highlights the lack of a mains signal, fire extinguishers, and a fire detection system.
“For me, the security conditions are not met. Due to several situations today, on my shift, I decided to come and relax on the street,” said António Barreto.
The complaint has already been filed with the hospital department reporting the situation.
