Judges and prosecutors call an indefinite strike from May 16

The associations of judges and prosecutors have expressed their concern about the lack of sufficient resources in the administration of Justice and about the workloads of courts and prosecutors and have called a strike after the “disappointing” meetings with Justice on March 31 and 4 of April.

The main associations of judges and prosecutors have announced their intention to call an indefinite strike of the Judicial and Prosecutor Careers as of May 16 after the “disappointing” meetings with Justice on March 31 and April 4. for now, the Association Judges and Judges for Democracy and the Progressive Union of Prosecutors have not joined the call. Thus, the Professional Association of the Magistracy, the Francisco de Vitoria Judicial Association, the Independent Judicial Forum, the Association of Prosecutors and the Professional and Independent Association of Prosecutors stated in a joint statement.

The Association of Judges and Judges for Democracy and the Progressive Union of Prosecutors say they want to wait to hear the proposal of the Ministry of Finance at the Board meeting scheduled for May 3 before joining the strike, although they affirm that they share their diagnosis and claims.

Judges and prosecutors express their concern about the lack of sufficient resources of the administration of Justice and the workloads of courts and prosecutors “which affect both the quality and speed of the judicial response and the health of the judiciary and members of the prosecution.” For the organizations that justify the strike, it is not enough to call the table on May 3, which could be called off at any time or concluded without agreements, which they consider would be “delaying the agreement and serving as an instrument of government propaganda”. .

The associations express their firm intention to work to reach an agreement that avoids having to implement the pressure measures announced, “from the same good faith that has encouraged us up to now.”
