Mendia: “There is no quality employment, if there is no secure employment”

At the opening of the V International Congress on Safety and Health at Work that started today in Bilbao, the Minister of Labor and Employment of the Basque Government stated that “the full health of workers is a right and a competitive opportunity”.

More than 100 international professionals in the field of occupational risk prevention and industrial safety will analyze the main health challenges in the V International Congress on Safety and Health which began today, under the motto “Assuming challenges, adding efforts”. In the inaugural act, the vicelehendakari and Minister of Labor and Employment, Idoia Mendiahas ensured that “there is no quality employment if there is no safe employment” and has called for collaboration and participation among all the agents involved in occupational health and safety who share that “the full health of workers is a right and a competitive opportunity.”

Organized by Osalan on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of its creation, during today and tomorrow the event will seek to integrate the participation of agents in occupational health and safety and establish the alliances. In this sense, Mendia has remarked that in terms of occupational health “here there is no excess of effort, and participation and collaboration is needed.” In the first place, he continued, “of employers, in terms of their specific responsibility for the safety and health of workers”, but also “of social agents and prevention delegates, labor inspection and the labor authority and all those who share that there is no quality employment if employment is not secure and that the full health of workers is a right and a competitive opportunity”.

In his opinion, “the key to the future in the labor market is the right to health and the competitiveness of companies” so that “investment in people and their well-being, in the broadest sense of the word, be an attraction to get involved in productivity”.

The vicelehendakari has expressed her appreciation for the work carried out by Osalan in its 30 years of existence and has highlighted the effort shared in these three decades with social and economic agents, while at the same time claiming its nature as a public service, “which has made it possible to jump from risk management to wellness management as a guide for the future”.
