The union has called demonstrations in Bilbao and Pamplona to emphasize that it will continue to promote strikes in defense of wages and pensions.
The ELA union arrives at May Day this year immersed in the defense of wages and pensions, and for this reason it has chosen the motto ‘Borrokan, irabazteko (In the fight, to win)’, in a double call presented this Monday by its general secretary, Mitxel Lakuntza, and its deputy general secretary, Amaia Muñoa. Thus, they have announced that separate demonstrations will take place next Monday in Bilbao and Pamplona.
Both have defended the strike as a “current instrument”, and have presented their 2022 Yearbook, which includes a total of 86 union victories from last year.
Lakuntza stated that “ELA, as the majority trade union in this country, is proud because Euskal Herria is leading the number of strikes“, because “there is a direct link between the strikes and the achievements obtained”. Likewise, he recalled that these are data aligned with the “wave of strikes” that is taking place in Europe, where countries such as France, Portugal, Germany or UK “are mobilizing for wages and pensions”.
For all these reasons, the union has launched two calls for next Monday: in Bilbaoa demonstration will start at 11:30 am from the Plaza del Sagrado Corazón, while in Pamplona It will do so at the same time from Plaza de la Cruz.
