The residents of the house that collapsed on Rua 31 de Janeiro in Porto have already been relocated.

Residents who lived in the house on Rua 31 de Janeiro where the “partial collapse” occurred have already been relocated to the Bonfim hospital and friends’ homes, the Chamber of Porto said this Thursday.

The Chamber of Porto told Lusa that of the 14 people who lived in the building, 10 were staying at the Hospedaria do Bonfim and three (a couple and a child) at a friend’s house in Vila Nova de Gaia.

A resident injured in the partial collapse will spend the night in a hospital in Santo António.

The partial collapse of a building on Rua 31 de Janeiro was caused by the collapse of a wall between the building in question and a neighboring building where work is underway, explained the commander of the Porto fire brigade and the municipal civil protection coordinator. .

On the spot, in statements to journalists, Mayor Rui Moreira specified that at 18:00 the collapse of building No. 55 along Rua 231 de Janeiro was announced.

The mayor stressed that the building “has no minimum living conditions” and that the municipality guarantees the accommodation of people that night.

“We will find a place to sleep,” he said.

Also at the scene, the commander of the Porto Fire Regiment and municipal civil protection coordinator, Carlos Marques, explained that six people were on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the building, and that four left by stairs and two on foot. .

According to Carlos Marquez, initially there were suspicions that there could be victims under the rubble, but the dog training team confirmed that there were none.

The official also said that the building “does not meet the conditions for living” and that crews are assessing its condition.

A source from the Sapadores do Porto firefighters told Lusa that the work “will continue indefinitely” and that as a result of the assessment they are doing on the building, “it may be necessary to demolish anything in an unstable structure or in danger of collapsing.”

There were 40 people on the spot supported by 15 vehicles.
