Three youths from Tomar arrested for violence against police

Three young residents of Tomar, two of them with a criminal record, were sentenced to 14 and 18 months in prison for reacting aggressively when they realized they were going to be detained by PSP agents.

The case took place in June 2019 and the verdict has now been confirmed by the Évora Court of Appeal.

The young people were approached politely by the PSP when they got out of the car, as the driver did not have a driver’s license. Other family members immediately joined the group in an attempt to evade the driver’s arrest, which led to police reinforcements.

The defendants were proven to have assaulted and threatened agents while being convicted of crimes of resistance and coercion against PSP agents and driving without a legal license. Only one of the sentences was suspended.
