Tried in Brazil for killing a man in Portugal 16 years ago

A court in the city of Espirito Santo on Brazil’s central coast next Monday will try a man for a murder committed 16 years ago in the municipality of Sintra. Mario de Lima Egidio, a Brazilian who was an immigrant in Portugal in August 2007, took refuge in the city after the crime.

According to the local press, the murder arose after a quarrel between the accused and the Portuguese Vitor Ferreira. The latter allegedly hit Mario Egidio with a bottle in an attempt to distract him from fighting other patrons at the bar. The accused then went home and returned to the shop with a knife.

This weapon was used to inflict several blows on Vitor Ferreira, who died in the hospital of Amadora Sintra. The killer fled to his country of origin after being recently arrested. He is awaiting trial for aggravated murder in prison and could serve time in Portugal.
