Staff of the Administration of Justice of the CAV, called for a three-day strike starting today

ELA and LAB ask the Basque Government to match the salary conditions of this group to those of General Administration staff, as established in an agreement signed in 2021.

Unions ALS and LAB have summoned the staff of the Justice administration of the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) to three days of strike starting today —May 9, 10 and 11— to request salary equalization for the rest of the civil servants.

Workers in the sector have carried out several partial strikes during the past month, and a 24-hour strike on April 19. Today they will gather in front of the Bilbao courts at 11:30 am.

The union centrals ask the Basque Government to “stop looking the other way” and to comply “immediately” with the Agreement signed in 2012 by the former Minister of Justice, Idoia Mendia. According to the IV Regulatory Agreement, the executive promised to match the salary conditions of the staff to those of the staff of the General Administration of the Basque Country. The unions denounce that the Basque Government “has been systematically failing to comply” for more than 10 years.

Likewise, they demand equalization in retirement conditions and a non-absorbable salary bonus for the staff of the Gender Violence Courts.

ELA and LAB believe that the Basque Government is waiting to see how the negotiations in Madrid take place in this same group. The executive proposes a salary increase of 10% in the next four years.

Meanwhile, the associations of state judges and prosecutors Spanish keep the indefinite strike convened from May 16after ending without agreement the last negotiating meeting with the Ministry of Justice.

Apparently, the Ministry has raised the initial figure for the salary increase, although the representatives of the associations still consider that it is an insufficient amount to deal with “the loss of purchasing power” that they say has been dragging on since 2009.

The negotiations will continue tomorrow, but the associations have indicated that they will consult their own with a view to the next meeting.
