Von der Leyen arrived in Ukraine to “prepare the ground” for EU membership

The President of the European Commission arrived in Kyiv today on a “symbolic” visit on the occasion of Europe Day in order to “prepare the ground” for negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.

“My presence in Kiev today, May 9, is symbolic, but it is also a sign of an important and very practical reality: the EU is working side by side with Ukraine on many issues,” Ursula von der Leyen told reporters on the night train. who brought her to the Ukrainian capital.

This is von der Leyen’s fifth visit to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24 last year, and it coincides with Europe Day, an EU celebration celebrated by Ukrainian authorities from today. , abandoning the Soviet tradition of celebrating the Day of Victory over Nazism.
