Lack of personnel, absenteeism and conflict, the main concerns of companies in Bizkaia

According to a recent survey, business associates in Cebek anticipate a slight economic recovery in the second semester with moderately optimistic forecasts in terms of orders, billing and investments.

Despite the moderately positive perception of the economic expectations for the coming months, the associated entrepreneurs in Cebek maintain their usual concerns about the Difficulties recruiting staff in certain professional profilesthe tall absenteeism in companies and the high level of labor conflict in the negotiation of agreements collective.

According to a survey made public this Tuesday, 52% of the commercial companies consulted consider that the current economic situation in Bizkaia is good compared to 39% who see it as regular, a perception that has improved compared to the data for 2022 when 63% of businessmen considered it regular compared to 30% who saw it as good.

They place at the top of their concerns the decrease in profitability of their businesses due to the reduction in their profit margins, despite the fact that 31% of those surveyed affirm that they have achieved a slight improvement (25% more) in their profitability and 44% affirm that they expect it to be the same as that obtained in 2022.

Cebek points out that access to bank financing for Biscayan companies “is not yet” a relevant problem but they anticipate that the increase in the price of money and, therefore, in financing costs, “is making this section difficult”.

In addition, 63% of the companies surveyed have expressed their difficulty recruiting staff they need and 53% have revealed that in the last year they have stopped increasing their staff for this reason.

Unacceptable level of conflict

They have considered “unacceptable” that a country like the Basque Country “which has the best working and salary conditions in all of Spain, is the one that concentrates half of the strikes registered in 2022 throughout the country and has 54% of days not worked due to strike”.

Likewise, the Vizcaya employers have criticized the Difficulties in reaching agreements in collective bargaining, which means that the renewal of agreements can take up to 3.5 years on average, a time that has been increasing in the last 20 years.

They have attributed this delay in the renewal of the agreements to the dynamics of “conflict and confrontation” carried out by the unions of the so-called “Basque union majority” (ALS and LAB).
