In Sintra, Lisbon, a man was arrested on suspicion of stealing gas cylinders from filling stations and materials from warehouses he entered, costing several victims around 60,000 euros, PSP reported this Wednesday.
The PSP note states that the 51-year-old detainee is suspected of 12 aggravated thefts and seven acts of civil disobedience, several of which were committed at night at gas stations in various parishes of the municipality of Sintra.
The man was observed to have broken the padlocks of the gas cylinder storage compartments and then stole the existing units he was transporting in the vehicle, which was also identified.
In addition to these crimes, he is also suspected of committing theft in warehouses through burglaries.
The offenders were injured by about 60,000 euros, PSP said, adding that it would continue to take steps to find other victims and possible recipients.
In addition to identifying the suspect, investigators discovered a warehouse where, based on search warrants, gas cylinders and tools related to the crimes were found.
Among other things, eight gas cylinders, four damaged locks, two crowbars, a sledgehammer, two suitcases with various tools and a cargo cart were found.
After a first judicial examination at the Judicial Court for the Western District of Lisbon, Nucleo de Sintra, the suspect was placed under compulsory pre-trial detention.
