The strike in the districts, announced by the platform of nine trade union organizations, will end this Friday in Lisbon, and the last of the 18 days of the stoppage will be marked by a concentration in Rossio Square.
To mark the end of the strike that has swept the country for 18 days, the trade union platform, which includes the national federations of teachers and education (Fenprof and FNE), called for a rally in Rossio Square starting at 15:00.
Before that, teachers will be concentrated in front of the Antonio Arroyo school, a choice that Fenprof justified in his statement by the need to insist on the mandatory and approval of a certain competition regime for teachers of art schools.
The strike, which repeated the initiative of the same trade union organizations taken at the beginning of the year, began on April 17 in Porto, from where it continued to cover all parts of the country in reverse alphabetical order, from Viseu to Aveiro, with an average adherence of about 80%, according to Fenprof.
The full restoration of the frozen service life and the abolition of quotas and vacancies for access to the 5th and 7th levels continue to be the main reasons for the protest of teachers, culminating in a nationwide strike and two demonstrations in June. 6th.
During today’s rally in Rossio, the trade union platform will announce a new action of struggle, which will begin on May 22.
In addition to Fenprof and FNE, the platform includes the Allied Association of Licensed Teachers (APSL), the Pro-Order of Teachers (PRÓ-ORDEM), the Union of Educators and Licensed Teachers (SEPLEU), the National Union of Educators (SINAPE), the National and Democratic Union of Teachers (SINDEP ), the Independent Union of Teachers and Educators (SIPE) and the National Union of Teachers Licensed by Polytechnics and Universities (SPLIU).
However, the Ministry of Education will meet again with sector unions on Monday for further talks on measures proposed by the executive branch to correct the asymmetries resulting from the freeze on teacher careers.
The measures affecting seniority and promotion were challenged by teacher representatives, who pushed for the elimination of 5th and 7th grade entry vacancies and the reinstatement of all seniority (six years, six months and 23 days). .
