The former governor of Banco de Portugal, Carlos Costa, will file a civil lawsuit against the prime minister to “publicly retract” “offensive statements” by calling the president of the republic as a witness, he told the Portuguese this Friday.
“Not yet called for an announced civil suit allegedly proposed by Dr. António Costa. [primeiro-ministro]I inform you that I have already appointed my legal representatives (…) in connection with the said contestation of the aforementioned civil action, while holding a counterclaim against Dr. Antonio Costa to publicly retract the offensive statements he made in my address, thus restoring the truth of the facts, naming me as witnesses, among others, as well as those pointed to by the author, including the President of the Republic,” says Carlos Costa, in a statement to Lusa.
Prime Minister António Costa filed a civil lawsuit on April 27 against former Banco de Portugal manager Carlos Costa, asking to be convicted “for retracting his statements” about the pressure associated with Isabel dos Santos.
A source connected to the trial confirmed to Lusa that a lawsuit has been filed with the Lisbon Civil Court, seeking “the conviction of Carlos Costa for retracting statements he made regarding BIC and Banif.”
