This Monday, the Ukrainian armed forces announced an offensive in Bakhmut, one of the cities where more blood has been shed because of the war in that country. This is the first successful counterattack in recent months.
According to Reuters, Ukraine is trying to regain control of the city, despite all the difficulties it faces along the way.
“The last days have shown that we can go forward and destroy the enemy even in extremely difficult conditions. We are fighting with smaller means, ”Colonel-General Alexander Syrsky, commander of the Ground Forces, said on Telegram.
Last week, the Ukrainian military said they were successfully pushing back Russian forces in Bakhmut. The information was also confirmed by the Russian side, which admitted that its troops were retreating north of Bakhmut.
Kyiv is expected to be preparing a major counteroffensive to try to retake Russian-occupied territory, but Ukrainian officials have indicated that gains around Bakhmut do not indicate the start of a wider counterattack.
