Mark M. Rissi established himself as an animal welfare activist by directing a drama about a farmer forced into factory farming. It even got to Joaquin Phoenix over the years.
De Grotzenpuur tells the story of a simple small farmer and shows his struggle for existence. Need pushes him first to industrial animal husbandry and poultry farming, and then to ruin.
Directed by Mark M. Rissi, the film is exhilarating, gripping and unforgettable. In fact, it is strange that the drama has somewhat disappeared and that it was not mentioned when voting on the industrial farming initiative in September 2022. then De Grotzenpuur influenced a referendum in 1978 which eventually led to the passage of Switzerland’s first animal welfare law.
For Rissy, however, the job was far from over. Though he turned with bread and stones such as Black spider other notable films, but today he is best known as an animal rights activist who records abuse on camera and makes the footage available to the public.
