Nightmarish neighbors are more common than you think, according to new research.
In fact, new statistics show that 60% of Britons have had a dispute with or negative feelings towards a neighbour, with 16% saying it happened ‘many times’.
Of those who had fights with neighbors, 40% said it was because family members were too loud during antisocial hours.
Disrespectful behavior also seems to be one of the biggest nuisances for residents.
Also, more than a quarter (28%) admit to having had a boundary dispute with a neighbor.
For other queuing-related issues, parking issues and noisy behavior (such as invasion of privacy) were cited as the most common issues, cited by 27% and 25% respectively.
Others include discussions of pets, discussions of outdoor spaces, and cheating in public areas.
These problems have even intensified among some families, with 15% even reporting that their neighbors called the police.
But not everyone has experienced these conflicts. Of the 2,000 people surveyed, 37% revealed that they had never clashed with their neighbors.
Some parts of the UK seem to be noisier than others. 70% of respondents in the North East said they had argued with a neighbour, compared to just 42% in Wales.
Terry Fisher of We Buy Any Home said of the study:
“Arguments about parking and noise can be avoided simply by being considerate of the people around you.
“If you feel any tension between your neighbors, we recommend that you approach the situation calmly and sensibly.
“However, irrational behavior on one side can make the situation particularly uncomfortable.
“In such cases, it may be necessary to contact local authorities or the police to resolve the matter.”
