In the basement of Marco’s Blu-ray, there is again a lot of stuff that wants to surface. Three films this time. Dig or Bury? You will know when you read his report.
Ants!
production: USA 1977 (95 minutes)
Genre: insect horror
Producer: Robert Shearer
Plot:
Thousands of deadly ants attack the guests of the old hotel.
Marco’s look:
Many people do not like the crawling of insects on the skin, and therefore there are several horror films about spiders, bugs, worms and other creatures. Ants are being tasted in this 1970s TV movie. Unfortunately, it quickly becomes clear how difficult it is to portray such small animals as a danger. Here’s How It Works Ants! partly more like a parody than a real shocker. This means that there is a certain spectacle, but it is not enough for the entire time of work. So feel free to skip this wacky horror wannabe.

Hooper
production: USA, 1977 (99 min.)
Genre: action drama
Producer: Hal Needham
Plot: Burt Reynolds plays a stuntman who is no longer at his best. However, he still wants to pull off one last, incredibly dangerous stunt before he retires.
Marco’s look:
Now I have (after hot rod) I saw probably the second best film about a fearless stuntman. While there isn’t much history here, there is. Hooper Fun! Walking with Burt Reynolds and his stunt buddies is a delight, and the stunts performed over and over again are truly breathtaking. Before becoming a director, director Hal Needham was one of the top stuntmen in Hollywood. A movie that every fan of handmade action should see! It also has a great title track and a great Sally Field who gets a lot out of a small role.

Arrival
production: USA/Mexico (115 min.)
Genre: Sci-fi thriller
Producer: David Twoey
Plot: An astronomer discovers a strange alien signal and uncovers a conspiracy.
Marco’s look: After the (illegitimate) flop, his water worldscripts allowed David Twohy (Black as coal) direct the next project. The result is a fun mix. Secret materials as well as Contact. It’s not very good, and the CGI tricks are pretty weak even for 1996. However, thanks to the music and staging, the film manages to keep the intrigue right up to the end. Charlie Sheen is an odd cast for the title role, but he fits perfectly into the ’90s charm of this mediocre sci-fi thriller.
