This morning the names of the first three winners of the Euskadi Literature Prizes, in the categories of Literature in Basque (bihurguneko nasaby Uxue Apaolaza Larrea), Children’s and Youth Literature in Basque (barruko hotsakby Leire Bilbao Barruetabeña) and Illustration of Literary Work (Irrimolaby Maite Mutuberria Larrayoz).
Lourdes Otaegi, Ane Labaka, Jon Martin, Yurre Ugarte and Josu Jiménez complete the jury for the category of Literature in Basque and in their opinion bihurguneko nasa “offers a rich reflection on identity and otherness. It is written in muscular prose that is read with pleasure, and the exact literary elaboration also gives it a certain crudeness, left over from all explanation and delay. It is a language perfectly adjusted to the content, in an intense dynamic where the reader will perceive the alert look of the protagonist delving into the folds of the details”.
