Euskadi Literature Awards, for Edurne Portela, Koro Navarro, Irati Jimenez and Teresa Maldonado

The writers Edurne Portela (Eyes closed), Koro Navarro (Feast, Eguzkia jaikitzen da), Irati Jimenez (Begiak zabalduko zaizkizue) and Teresa Maldonado (let’s talk straight) are the winners of the Euskadi Literature Awards in the categories of Literature in Spanish, Literary Translation into Basque, Essay in Basque and Essay in Spanish.

These names join those of the winners in the other categories, announced last week: Uxue Apaolaza, Leire Bilbao and Maite Mutuberria, in the categories of Literature in Basque, Literature for Children and Young People in Basque and Illustration. For the first time, the winners in all categories are women.

For the jury. choral novel Eyes closed, by Edurne Portela, “establishes an enriching set of points of view from which arises the tension between the told and the untold, and proposes a dialogue between the present and the past to reflect on guilt and forgiveness”. The jury was made up of Txani Rodríguez, Javier Maura, Aixa de la Cruz, Jesús Camarero and Patricia Millán.

The Euskadi Literature Awards will be presented on November 24 at Tabakalera, the International Center for Contemporary Culture in San Sebastián.
