In the latest film by Pablo Larraín, a specialist in biopics that are not traditional biopics (Jackie, Spencer), the Oscar-winner will appear as the legendary opera singer.
Chilean director Pablo Larrain stayed true to the biopic. After watching movies about Jackie Kennedy (Jackie) and Princess Diana (Spencer), he will then turn to the tragic life story of opera singer Maria Callas.
Like his previous films, the Callas biopic will not span several years, but will focus on a short period of time. Title in the movie Maria the clothes will show the last days of the opera singer, which she spent in Paris in the 1970s.
Callas was born in New York in 1923. After her parents divorced in 1937, she moved to Athens with her mother and sister, where she studied singing and her talent was quickly recognized there. So she became one of the most famous opera singers of the 20th century. However, she struggled with myopia for many years. She was also repeatedly involved in private and professional scandals.
The script for the film was written by Stephen Knight, who Spencer worked with Larrain and also in the TV series Peaky Blinders responsible. The film crew managed to attract Oscar winner Angelina Jolie to the main role.
Since Larraine always works very fast, we expect the film to be ready for next year’s fall festival. So a Swiss theatrical release can be expected in late 2023 or early 2024.
