For years, the DCEU languished aimlessly. Now Warner Bros. Discovery announces reboot as James Gunn and Peter Safran take on the helm of all future DC projects.
While Marvel has had Kevin Feige in control and control of the MCU for years, DC’s comic rival has been far less coordinated. Since the departure of Zack Snyder as the master of DC’s superhero films, there seems to have been no master plan for other Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman & Co. films at the latest.
After merging with Discovery Warner Bros. now seems to want to get down to business and has established a new production department at DC Studios. This is essential to overseeing all future DC projects – be it movies, TV, live action or animation. Directed by James GunnGuardian of the Galaxy, Suicide Squad) and producer Peter Safran, who were named co-presidents and co-CEOs.
Both attribute the adoption of these posts to their love of comics and characters:
“We are honored to be the stewards of these DC characters we have loved since childhood. We look forward to collaborating with some of the world’s most talented writers, directors and actors to create an integrated multi-layered universe that still allows for the individual expression of the artists involved. Our commitment to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn and other DC characters is matched only by our commitment to the wonder of human possibility that these characters represent. We look forward to bringing cinematic experiences to life around the world by telling some of the biggest, most beautiful and greatest stories ever told.”
Gunn and Safran will start their new job on November 1, 2022. It is not yet clear if Gunn will continue directing his own films in this position.
