Vitoria-born director Paul Urkijo, who in 2017 won the San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Week with his first film “Errementari”, has once again won the highest award at this event with his second film, “Irati”, the Audience Award for Best Feature Film.
This film opened the San Sebastian festival on October 28 after having competed in the last edition of Sitges, where it won two awards, the public award and the award for best visual effects.
This Friday, the festival has announced its list of winners, which, in the section of the prizes decided by the public, is completed with “Oldtimers”, by Brian Quintero (Canada), as best short film; “Àcorchée”, by Joachim Hérissé (France), best animated short; and “El semblante”, by Carlos Moriana and Raúl Cerezo, best Spanish short film.
The festival’s jury has awarded two other prizes: the best short film for “Alegrías riojanas”, by Velasco Broca, and the Silver Méliès for the best European fantastic short film to “The Debutante”, by Elizabeth Hobbs (United Kingdom).
“Oldtimers” has also won the young jury award, while “Loop”, by Pablo Polledri, has won the Syfy award for best Spanish short film, and “Unicorn Wars”, by Alberto Vázquez, has won the Blogos de Oro to the best feature film awarded by critics. These last two are productions by Uniko, a company from Bilbao.
