No 10 officials called Johnson “weak” and said he “cannot lead”, WhatsApps reports

The Covid inquiry has entered a crucial week with evidence expected to provide a clear picture of what happened in Boris Johnson’s government during the pandemic.

Among those giving evidence on Monday was Martin “Party Man Marty” Reynolds after an email inviting more than 100 Downing Street staff to a “Bring Your Own Alcohol” event during the first lockdown was leaked public.

Mr Reynolds said he could not remember why the disappearing feature was activated on WhatsApp group number 10, which included Mr Johnson, before the Covid investigation was announced.

In WhatsApp messages released, Cabinet Office minister Simon Case accused Boris Johnson of “changing strategic direction every day” and called the former prime minister “weak and indecisive”.
