Hobbycraft, an arts and crafts shop, definitely is. Sales surged during the height of the holiday season as shoppers searched for Christmas gifts and decorations. The retail chain said it was also helped by rising sales of puzzles, which have become significantly more popular over the past year. Total sales rose 7.2 percent in the seven weeks leading up to Boxing Day compared to the same period last year. He stressed that like-for-like sales were up 5.5 percent as they were also affected by new store openings.

The company said “strong” growth in retail sales was supported by investments in the company’s new website and faster click-to-collect services. Click-to-collect orders grew by 54% and accounted for 40% of all online orders. Increased demand for Christmas handicrafts has boosted sales of wreaths, baubles and crackers, according to Hobbycraft. Personalized products were also popular, with the company achieving a 50 percent increase in sales of blank ceramic Christmas decorations for painting and decorating.
