Central Europe predicts a new wave of refugees and asks for help from Brussels

The Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia are anticipating a new wave of Ukrainian refugees after the latest Russian attacks and due to the winter and have turned to the European Commission (EC) for more help to receive them.

The request came a day before an extraordinary meeting on migration to be held by 27 interior ministers this Friday in Brussels, convened by the Czech Republic, which holds the European Union (EU) presidency.

“Another wave of refugees is approaching,” Polish Chief Executive Mateusz Morawiecki predicted at a press conference in the Slovak city of Kosice after participating in the summit of the Visegrad Group (V4), consisting of four countries in central Europe, three of which border Ukraine.
