Man arrested for shooting mother who tried to help son during robbery in Porto

A 24-year-old man was arrested for robbery and attempted murder in Porto by the Judicial Police (PJ). The events took place on the afternoon of March 28 in a residential complex in the city of Espinho.

The suspect, accompanied by another person, attacked the victim and stole the golden thread. The victim’s mother was also shot more than once after trying to help her son. Despite her injuries, the mother survived.

The young man was already on the run from the authorities, after breaking the permanence of the compulsory housing to which he was subject. The defendant is currently charged with four offenses of aggravated theft and three offenses of assault on physical integrity.

The man, who changed his location frequently to avoid arrest, is now in a pre-trial detention center.
