Archived an MP’s investigation into the COVID-19 outbreak at a nursing home in Regengos de Monzaras.

The Prosecutor’s Office (MP) investigation into the outbreak of covid-19 at a nursing home in Reguengos de Monzaraz, Évora district, which resulted in 18 deaths in 2020, has been archived, the owner of the facility said.

In a statement sent to the Lusa agency, the Maria Inacía Vogado Perdigao Silva Foundation (FMIVPS), the owner of the home, indicated that on Monday he received “an order to archive all the facts under investigation in the wake of the covid-19 outbreak.” .

“With the calmness of those who, with a clear conscience, did everything possible, we received a notification about the archiving of the investigative process arising from various reports and complaints received by the deputies,” he stressed.

According to FMIVPS, “all issues subject to investigation” have been archived, namely regarding “hypothetical elder abuse,” the outbreak, the causes of user deaths, and the actions of workers and building management, among others.

“Thus, without prejudice to subsequent assessments by the judiciary of those responsible for the cruel and inhuman trials carried out in the public square, in the present case, justice has been done for the time being in a fully archived investigative process.” , he stressed.

The FMIVPS statement also mentions that it currently continues to care for 79 seniors at its Senior Residents’ Residential Complex (ERPI), which is registering an intent to move in for an additional 85 people.

A covid-19 outbreak at the FMIVPS home was discovered on June 18, 2020, and resulted in the deaths of 16 users, a facility employee and a male member of the community.

In August 2020, Luce was informed by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) that the deputy had launched an investigation into the covid-19 outbreak at this nursing home and that he was reviewing the Order of Physicians’ (OM) report on the institution.

This report concluded that the house did not comply with the guidelines of the Directorate General of Health (DGS) and outlined the duties of the administration, as well as criticizing the Public Health Directorate and the Regional Directorate of Health.

In the document, OM argued, among other things, that all conditions had been created for the “rapid spread” of the virus, “with the responsibilities of those who managed the space, the process of epidemiological screening and the application of DGS standards.”
