PCP asks Medina if he confirms cuts in income support

This Wednesday, the PKP asked the finance minister if he confirms that he has given instructions to cut income support, given that, if true, this is an unfair and illegal measure that is contrary to the decree-law approved by the government.

Speaking to reporters in the Assembly of the Republic, PKP MP Bruno Dias said “there were many” citizens who came to parliament to express “their indignation and dismay”, after Diário de Notícias and Dinheiro Vivo reported that on Wednesday that an internal dispatch from the Ministry of Finance amended the Decree-Law to reduce income support.

According to the news, the services are considering gross income and alimony instead of a tax base that dictates a lower exemption or exemption, avoiding increasing the impact of the measure from 240 million to 1 billion euros.

Bruno Dias warned that if the news was confirmed, “a huge number of people” would be excluded from rent support, as well as “a reduction in the amount allocated” to those who would still have access to rent. funds.

“Besides being unfair, this is illegal, because it is contrary to the decree-law that the government itself has approved. The law that has been passed, something must be wrong and must be corrected,” he defended.

In this context, the PKP sent three questions through the Assembly of the Republic to the Minister of Finance, Fernando Medina, considering that this could be “a genuine political fraud, an unacceptable injustice”.

The party is asking Medina if he confirms that he has instructed the tax authority to consider gross income and income subject to special rates when determining the amount of support to be applied.

If applicable, the PCP also wants to know how the executive branch explains “this order issued by internal rule, contrary to the decree-law approved by the government itself.”

“Is this situation already corrected or will it be corrected immediately, if only to ensure the full implementation of the current decree-law?” they also ask.

Along with these questions addressed to the Minister of Finance, Bruno Diaz also stressed that some of the people who are targeted for rent support are also facing “harsh interest rate hikes” and recalled that the PCP has introduced a measure aimed at ensuring “efficient and a fairer response” to this situation.

“This is due to the mobilization of resources by the banks themselves, who are earning millions from this increase in interest rates and must be the first to respond and finance in order to overcome this increase in rates,” he explained.

The communist deputy stressed that either by “correcting the injustice” of the government in supporting rents, or by measures presented by his party, it is necessary to give “a concrete answer to the problem that is felt by thousands and thousands.” of people”.
