More than 50 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Santarém, Viseu, Guarda and Bragança pose the highest risk of rural fires on Tuesday, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
IPMA has also placed more than 60 municipalities in Faro, Beja, Santarem, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Leiria, Lisbon, Coimbra, Viseu, Guarda, Vila Real and Bragança at very high risk.
Other municipalities in all areas of the mainland except Viana do Castelo are in high fire danger on Tuesday.
Due to hot weather, the fire hazard will continue until at least Saturday.
This risk, as defined by IPMA, has five levels, from reduced to maximum, and the calculations are based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and rainfall over the past 24 hours.
Since the beginning of the year, 4315 fires have already affected 9185 hectares of rural areas.
IPMA predicts cloudy or clear skies for the continent today, with morning cloudiness on the west coast, occasional strong winds on the west coast south of Cabo da Roca, fog or morning mist in places on the northern and central coasts, and a drop in high temperatures beyond except for the eastern Algarve, and the rise is at a minimum.
The minimum temperature will vary from 14 degrees Celsius (in Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Bragança, Guarda, Viseu and Coimbra) to 21 (in Faro), and the maximum from 22 (in Viana do Castelo) to 33 (in White Castle).
