US President Joe Biden hosts Italian Prime Minister and far-right leader Georgia Meloni on July 27 in a meeting to “reaffirm the strong relationship” between the two countries, the White House announced this Wednesday.
The meeting will serve as “an affirmation of the strong relationship between the United States and Italy,” US presidential spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre, quoted in the statement, said.
The democratic president and leader of the Italian government will consider common strategic interests, including “a common commitment to continue to support Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.”
Likewise, there will be “closer transatlantic coordination regarding China and the next Italian G7 Presidency” on the negotiating table, which the European country will take over in 2024.
Biden invited Meloni to the US on June 26 during a telephone conversation, although the date was not specified at the time.
In this remote dialogue, Washington and Rome have already expressed their unwavering support for Kyiv, which took place the day after the US President’s conversation with the French, German and British rulers, also about the Russian invasion.
