Cape Verdean Justice Minister Joana Rosa predicted this Friday an “avalanche of requests” for Cape Verdean citizenship with a new law that was unanimously approved Thursday in Parliament.
The bill defining the conditions for conferring, acquiring, losing and re-acquiring Cape Verdean citizenship was approved in particular and in general by a unanimous vote of the deputies present at the meeting of Parliament at the time of the vote.
The law was approved by all 64 deputies present during the final global vote, 36 from the Movement for Democracy (MpD, in power), 24 from the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV, opposition) and four from União. Cape Verdian Independent Democratic Party (UCID, opposition).
