A 50-year-old man drowned on Sunday afternoon in Praia da Azurreira in Ovar.
The warning was issued at 3:43 pm by the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon) that “a person is in trouble in the water on an uncontrolled beach,” the authorities said in a statement.
The man was pulled out of the water by a family member present at the scene after he allegedly felt unwell while swimming due to cardiac and respiratory arrest.
There were 25 operatives from the Ovar Fire Department, PSP, NCIS, INEM, and the Institute for Shipwrecked Aid.
Death was pronounced on the spot by a doctor from the ambulance and resuscitation of Aveiro.
The body was then taken to the forensic center in Aveiro by volunteers from Ovar, and the Maritime Police Department of Psychology was activated and provided support to the victim’s relatives.
