At the summit, António Costa announced that Portugal was ready to convert member states’ debts in support of the ecological transition, similar to what is happening with Cape Verde. Portugal is ready “to work with each of the CPLP member states to also convert debt into an environment, energy, water and waste investment fund to accelerate this transition,” he added. The starting point of this proposal is to work “based on a pilot project of the Climate and Environment Fund” in Cape Verde. In turn, the president of the republic defended the opening of the CPLP summits for young people in order to prevent the organization from becoming a “relic of the past” or a “showcase of personalities.”
