The National Democratic Alternative (ADN) party filed an appeal to the Constitutional Court on Tuesday against a motion to annul Chega’s candidacy in Madeira’s legislative elections, which was rejected by the Regional Judicial Court of Comarco.
“Nothing moves us against the Chega party, as we would do the same if it were any other party, but that is because we believe that national politics is in a vegetative state and is connected to the globalist interest machine in which citizens do not participate. For those who believe that “all this is responsible”, it is no longer relevant that we were forced to submit this appeal to the Constitutional Court,” the party said in a statement.
The actions of the National Democratic Alternative (ADN) followed a Madeira court decision published on Monday that dismissed the party’s complaint against Chega’s candidacy, stating that there were no procedural violations.
The ADN complained that the candidacy of Chega, led by Miguel Castro, was not accepted, given the decision of the Constitutional Court no.
The Judicial Court of Comarque of Madeira explained in its ruling that the intervention of the judge is limited to assessing possible procedural violations under the Electoral Law of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, which regulates the issue related to the submission of candidacies, which is that “any procedural violations, hindering the preservation of the decision on the admission of the candidacy of Chega’s party”, were not identified.
The ADN, whose candidacy for the September 24 elections is led by Miguel Pita, then decided to appeal the decision to the Constitutional Court.
“Ultimately, the future of democracy in Portugal is at stake, because if our appeal succeeds, activists from all political parties will again be able to scrutinize internal party democracy, which will not happen if the Constitutional Court changes its mind,” the statement said. parties.
The ADN emphasizes that the already published decisions of the Constitutional Court prove that “there is no internal democracy in Chega’s party and that it commits consistent lawlessness.”
“Whoever does not allow democracy to exist in his home will never allow it if he has the opportunity to run the country, and this is something we cannot accept,” he emphasizes.
In the elections on September 24, the Madeiran court approved 13 candidates, corresponding to two coalitions and 11 other parties, but the final lists will not be published until September 4.
As a result of the distribution of 13 political forces on the ballot, the Portuguese Labor Party (PTP) ranked first, followed by Juntos Pelo Povo (DPP), Blok de Esquerda (BE), Socialist Party (PS), Chega (CH), React Include Integrate (RIR), Party of the Earth (MPT), National Democratic Alternative (ADN), Somoz Madeira (PSD/CDS-PP coalition), People-Animals-Nature (PAN), Livre (L), CDU – – Unitary Democratic Coalition ( PCP/PEV) and the Liberal Initiative (IL).
The previous regional elections were held on September 22, 2019.
In this election, in one district, 16 parties and a coalition competed for 47 seats in the Parliament of Madeira: SDP, PS, CDS-PP, JPP, BE, Chega, IL, PAN, PDR, PTP, PNR, Aliança, Partido da Terra – MPT, PCTP/MRPP, PURP, RIR and CDU (PCP/PEV).
The PSD then lost for the first time the absolute majority in the Madeira Regional Legislative Assembly, which it had held since 1976, electing 21 deputies and forming a coalition government with the SDS-PP (three deputies).
The PS elected 19 deputies, three from the AKP and one from the PKP.
