The Prime Minister said this Wednesday that he welcomed the decision to entrust the organization of the 2030 World Cup to Portugal, Spain and Morocco, expressing confidence that it would be a huge success.
This position of António Costa, published on the social network X (formerly Twitter), comes shortly after the FIFA Council announced in a statement published on its official website that the 2030 FIFA World Cup will be organized by Portugal, Spain and Morocco.
In the same note, the organization also said that Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay will play three games at this World Cup to “celebrate the centenary” of the competition, which first took place in Uruguay in 1930.
“It is with great joy that we receive the news that the 2030 FIFA World Cup will be organized jointly by Portugal, Spain and Morocco. We congratulate the Portuguese Football Federation for its commitment and work,” the Prime Minister wrote.
In the same message, the leader of the executive branch welcomes Portugal’s partnership with Spain and Morocco, “in the belief that this will be another demonstration of the potential and proof given in the organization of major events.”
“It will certainly be a hugely successful World Cup,” he adds.
