Pilot project to protect minors who are victims of domestic violence

The National Commission for the Promotion of the Rights and Protection of Children and Youth presented this Friday an evaluation of the project “A teu lado”, aimed at protecting minors who are victims of domestic violence. Created in 2021, the project aims to address the need for early intervention in cases of child victims of domestic violence. It was tested in Amadora, Loures, Seixal, Faro, Lola and Almada.

The children targeted by this project are mainly Portuguese, aged between 3 and 17 years old. Joana Alexander, professor and researcher at ISCTE, listed some of the challenges encountered as: disruption of communication, lack of resources and training, and lack of responsiveness out of hours by the various organizations involved (including schools), among others.
