Brazil’s civil police are investigating the disappearance of former player Marcelinho Carioca, who has not been seen since Sunday. Two suspects involved in this case were arrested this Monday.
Authorities were called at 11:30 pm on Sunday (2:30 am on Tuesday in Portugal) after a suspicious vehicle was discovered in the Monte Belo area of Sao Paulo, the Brazilian press reported.
At the scene, officers recognized the license plate and realized the car belonged to a company owned by Marcelinho. Authorities also arrested two people who were near the vehicle.
The former Brazil international reportedly went to a music event at Corinthians Stadium and then disappeared. Authorities do not know whether the man was alone or accompanied.
The 51-year-old Brazilian played for Flamengo before joining Corinthians. After his retirement, he became a sports commentator and entered political life. Until January, he served as Minister of Sports and Recreation in the municipality Itaquaquecetuba.
