The elected secretary general of the PS said this Monday that “at the first opportunity” he will make a decision on the new Lisbon airport, arguing that the country “cannot systematically drag its feet.”
“This is outdated, but we had an independent technical committee that gave conclusions, conclusions that are subject to public comment and then, of course, at the first opportunity we will make a decision, but depending on the work that the independent technical committee has done.” This is obvious,” Pedro Nuno Santos responded when asked whether he would renew the decision he made as minister regarding this infrastructure.
During a visit to the PC shipyard in Guifões, Matosinhos, Porto district, in which several Socialist mayors of the district and members of the Assembly of the Republic took part, António Costa’s successor in the PS leadership emphasized that one of his “great goals” for the country “must be achieved ”, pointing to rail investment as one path to follow.
“This attitude towards management, which is to do and achieve, is one of our main distinguishing features, the country cannot systematically drag its feet, it must move forward, and we have this ability to move the country forward, and the railway is one of them. these signs,” he said.
However, the former infrastructure minister admitted that “things are not going well on the railway, there is still a long way to go” and that the country is “very far away” from the desired railway.
“One of the great goals that we set for the country is to achieve, it must be done, it does not just happen through speeches, words, it happens through work, and what we see here is also what was our job, and, by the way, mine as a minister,” he said.
For Pedro Nuno Santos, the railway is an example of PS work in government. “Railway is the transport of the future, it is not from the past as many thought, for many years the railway was deprived of investment, lines were closed, materials were not purchased, and a few years ago the railway received huge development again. ., has taken center stage in the national political debate,” he said.
“It is very important for us to show the country that this is possible, you can move forward, and we are here in a space that proves that (…), we have experience, we have leadership, we have experience, capabilities, and this plant shows this well,” he noted.
