A two-year-old girl drowned late this Sunday morning, at 11:30, in the swimming pool of the house where she lived with her family in Esmeriz, Vila Nova de Famalicão.
The youngest fell into the pool without a cover and died. The accident occurred when the victim escaped the control of his parents, who alerted authorities as soon as they realized what had happened.
When firefighters and INEM arrived on the scene, the girl was already in cardiopulmonary arrest. Death was pronounced at the scene after unsuccessful attempts to turn the situation around.
Psychologists from the Famalican Fire Department, VMER, GNR and INEM psychologists arrived at the scene to assist the family.
GNR officials were at the home investigating but all indications are that it was an accident.
