Seven sea bars are closed to navigation this Sunday on the mainland and the Azores, while three are closed due to rough seas, on a day when 10 areas of the country are under a yellow warning due to heavy rain.
The Douro and Esposende bars in the north are closed to shipping this Sunday, according to the National Maritime Authority (ANM).
The bars in Povoa de Varzina and Vila do Conde are air-conditioned, and vessels with a draft of more than two meters should only practice plank between two hours before and two hours after high tide.
In Póvoa de Varzim, ANM warns that vessels should navigate “with extreme caution” due to siltation in the sandbar.
In the south of the country, the Alvor and Lagos bars are closed to shipping, and the Albufeira bar is closed to vessels under 12 meters in length.
In the Azores, the bars of Santa Cruz das Flores, Lajes das Flores and Porto da Casa on Corvo Island are also closed to navigation.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has placed 10 areas of mainland Portugal under a yellow warning level due to the forecast of heavy rainfall.
The Aveiro area is under a yellow warning from 10.41pm Saturday until 9am Monday due to occasional heavy rainfall which may be “occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms”.
In Coimbra and Leiria, a yellow warning for heavy rain was in effect from 22:41 on Saturday until 6:00 this Sunday, but it is active again in the Coimbra area from 3:00 to 9:00. I’m on Monday.
Braga, Porto and Viana do Castelo are under a yellow warning from 0am this Sunday until 6am Monday due to a forecast of “occasionally heavy” rainfall that may be “occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms.”

A yellow warning is issued by the IPMA whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
